Respect seniority Ceremony or Rubwai (พิธีรับไหว้)
After the completion ceremony of holy water shed and then benediction. The next ceremony is the Rubwai, means the parents, patrons and seniors accept the respect from groom and bride.
The parents of grooms and brides as well as other senior relatives sit properly in the arranged room. To pay homage to their parents and seniors relatives, both bride and groom bow three times with flat hands on the arranged pillows in front of them. (bow 3 times same as praying the Buddha in temple) If there are other relatives, groom and brides bow only one time without flat hands. Then send the tray which is put incense, candles, flowers and white tread to parents, the parents bless the marry couple and also tie the white tread at the wrist to marry couple.
The parents may put money (by putting in envelop) as a funds to build a family for the marry couple, or, as the first property reserved for a family in the future. The marry couple also give the Pawai or Respect Fabrics.
Respect Fabrics or Pawai (ผ้าไหว้)
The Respect Fabrics are the fabrics that grooms and brides give to parents or patrons to show respect to them as seniority culture.
There are two types of the Respect Fabrics, ones are for parents and those who have the grace to raise the female patron. If you are going to give to mother or female patrons, the Respect Fabrics will be silk or textured fabrics. If to give to the father or male patrons, the Respect fabrics will be in purple cloth and loincloth.
Another type of Respect Fabrics is for ghosts or spirits which need to be in pure white fabrics in order to suture a bite. Or the fabrics can be yellow robes for the Buddhist monks and this is to give merit and dedicated to ancestors who passed away.
The Respect Fabrics for parents and for ghost need to put in separate trays.
